Austrian National Championship 2025 in Innsbruck: Rebels Karateclub Wins Three Medals
What a weekend. Three athletes enter, three athletes return with medals. At the Sport Austria Finals 2025 in Innsbruck, the Rebels Karateclub Wien once again proved that it is one of the rising forces in Austrian karate. In the kumite events of the Austrian National Championship, Lorenz Hellmer, Edvin Kuric and Daniel Carrillo Angulo together claimed three medals – a result that fills the young club with tremendous pride.
The Austrian National Championship: The Highest National Stage
The Austrian National Championship in Karate is the most important national competition of the year. Here, the best athletes from all federal states come together to compete at the highest level. The Sport Austria Finals in Innsbruck provided a particularly impressive setting: an open-air stage against the backdrop of the Tyrolean mountains, where the award ceremonies took place, lent the event a very special atmosphere. For a club like the Rebels Karateclub, which is still relatively young, every medal on this stage represents a milestone.
Lorenz Hellmer: Vice National Champion in Kumite -75 kg
The highlight of the weekend came from Lorenz Hellmer. In the Men’s Kumite -75 kg category, he fought his way through a strong field to the final and secured 2nd place – earning him the official title of Vice National Champion 2025. Particularly noteworthy: on his way to the final, Lorenz defeated the highly favored competitor from Vorarlberg, causing a real upset in the tournament. With technical precision, tactical cunning and indomitable will, he proved that he can compete at the national top level. The Vice National Champion title is the well-deserved reward for years of hard training and consistent development.
Edvin Kuric: Bronze in Kumite +84 kg
In the +84 kg weight class, Edvin Kuric claimed 3rd place. Despite difficult preparation conditions and an injury that limited him in the weeks before the competition, he competed in Innsbruck with full commitment. His path to the bronze medal was marked by intense fights against strong opponents from across Austria. That he managed to secure a podium finish despite these adverse circumstances speaks to his fighting spirit and mental strength.
Daniel Carrillo Angulo: Bronze in Kumite -84 kg
Daniel Carrillo Angulo was also unstoppable in the -84 kg class. He likewise secured 3rd place, delivering impressive fights along the way. With technical precision and fighting spirit, Daniel showed what sets him apart – combined with the training that characterizes Shotokan karate. His bronze medal at the National Championship underscores his potential and development as a competitor.
Fighting Spirit Despite Adversity
What makes these three medals particularly valuable are the circumstances under which they were won. Not all athletes were able to prepare optimally. Injuries and unfavorable training conditions presented the team with additional challenges. But this is exactly where the character that defines the Rebels Karateclub shone through: giving up was not an option. Each individual stepped onto the mat with maximum determination – and was rewarded for it.
Vasiljevic Jovana also competed at the National Championship for the Rebels, gaining valuable competition experience at the highest level.
What This Means for the Rebels Karateclub
Three medals at the Austrian National Championship are a strong statement for a young club like the Rebels Karateclub. They show that the work of our coaches is paying off and that consistent training at the highest level delivers results. The club is growing – not only in membership numbers but also in athletic performance.
This result in Innsbruck is both motivation and commitment: motivation to continue on the path we’ve chosen, and commitment to prepare the next generation of karateka just as well.
