Belt Examination July 2025 – Rebels Show Their Skill

Belt Examination at Rebels Karateclub Wien – Summer 2025

On 14 July 2025, the summer belt examination took place at Rebels Karateclub Wien. For weeks our candidates had been working towards this day – with additional karate training, targeted preparation in Kihon, Kata and Kumite and the necessary mental focus. At the end of the evening, many walked away with a new belt – a visible sign of their personal development in Shotokan Karate.

What Is a Karate Belt Examination?

In karate, a belt examination is far more than just a technical test. It is a moment in which karateka show what they have learned over the past months – physically, technically and mentally. The examination follows the classical structure:

  • Kihon – the basic techniques: Tsuki, Geri, Uke, in different stances and combinations
  • Kata – the prescribed form that reflects the level of the respective kyu grade
  • Kumite – sparring, in basic or free form depending on the examination grade

With each kyu grade the requirements rise: more techniques, more demanding kata, more precise timing in kumite. The examination is therefore also an important developmental moment – it forces every karateka to critically reflect on their own karate and to work specifically on weaknesses.

Preparation in Everyday Training

The weeks before a belt examination are particularly intense in the dojo. In regular karate training, the entire examination programme is repeated, refined and simulated under examination conditions. Our coaches pay attention not only to clean technique, but also to the appearance: upright posture, clear commands, clean bowing, controlled breathing. All of this is part of a good examination.

Especially for karateka taking their first examination, the tension on the day should not be underestimated. Suddenly all eyes are on a single person, the examination panel observes every movement and routine alone is not enough. Anyone who does not deliver here learns an important karate lesson: stay calm, breathe, execute the next technique as well as possible. Exactly this ability – to bring out your own skill even under pressure – is what later makes the difference in every serious competition.

Congratulations to All Candidates

To all candidates who appeared on 14 July 2025, we extend our heartfelt congratulations. The new belt is more than just a piece of fabric – it stands for the discipline, the training hours and the courage to face the examination situation. Each new grade is a milestone on the personal karate path and at the same time an obligation to keep developing.

Next Belt Examination and Trial Training

Anyone who wants to take part in the next examination date should start training now. Even without previous experience – in a trial training session everyone can learn the basics and experience the Rebels spirit live. We look forward to every new karateka who wants to walk the path from white belt to coloured belt and beyond together with us.
