A Season to Be Proud Of
For Rebels Karateclub from Vienna, the 2026 competition year ranks among the most successful in the club’s history. From the international opener in Croatia to the season highlight at the national championship, our athletes stood on the podium tournament after tournament β nationally and internationally, in both individual and team events. Here is the overview of the season so far.
International Opener: 20th Cro Cup in Croatia
The season opened in April with the 20th Cro Cup in Croatia. Chairman and head coach Edvin Kuric immediately delivered a double success in two completely different disciplines:
- π₯ Edvin Kuric β 1st place, Kumite +84kg
- π₯ Edvin Kuric β 2nd place, Kata Individual Seniors Male
Styrian Open in Graz
At the Styrian Open 2026 in Graz, one of the most significant international tournaments in the German-speaking world, the Rebels took medals in every colour β with team gold plus silver and bronze in the individual events. Edvin Kuric alone reached the podium four times:

Vienna State Championship
At the season’s most important home event, the Vienna State Championship 2026, the Rebels dominated the Vienna competition:

- π₯ Rebels Karate Team β 1st place, Kumite Team Seniors
- π₯ Lorenz Hellmer β 2nd place, Kumite Individual -75kg
- π₯ Rui Ji Zhao β 3rd place, Kata Individual Seniors Kyu-Grade
Austrian International Shotokan Cup
At the Austrian International Shotokan Cup in St. Georgen im Attergau, two Rebels secured a podium finish in the same event:

- π₯ Lorenz Hellmer β 3rd place, Kumite Individual Men Senior
Season Highlight: Five Medals at the National Championship
The crowning conclusion of the spring was the Austrian Karate Championship in early June β the most important national karate competition of the year. With no fewer than five medals, the Rebels once again ranked among the strongest clubs in the country: in the official medal table this meant 3rd place among all Viennese clubs and 9th in the nationwide club ranking β an impressive result for a still-young club. Building on a Historic Success
The strong 2026 season follows seamlessly on the biggest international success in the club’s recent history: 5th place at the WSKA World Championship 2025 in CΓ‘diz, achieved by Edvin Kuric β Austria’s biggest success in the Kumite Seniors class in ESKA/WSKA history in over 15 years.
