A Strong Season: Rebels Karateclub's 2026 Competition Review

A Season to Be Proud Of

For Rebels Karateclub from Vienna, the 2026 competition year ranks among the most successful in the club’s history. From the international opener in Croatia to the season highlight at the national championship, our athletes stood on the podium tournament after tournament – nationally and internationally, in both individual and team events. Here is the overview of the season so far.

International Opener: 20th Cro Cup in Croatia

The season opened in April with the 20th Cro Cup in Croatia. Chairman and head coach Edvin Kuric immediately delivered a double success in two completely different disciplines:

  • πŸ₯ˆ Edvin Kuric – 2nd place, Kata Individual Seniors Male

Styrian Open in Graz

At the Styrian Open 2026 in Graz, one of the most significant international tournaments in the German-speaking world, the Rebels took medals in every colour – with team gold plus silver and bronze in the individual events. Edvin Kuric alone reached the podium four times:

  • πŸ₯‰ Lorenz Hellmer – 3rd place, Kumite Individual Men Senior

Season Highlight: Five Medals at the National Championship

The crowning conclusion of the spring was the Austrian Karate Championship in early June – the most important national karate competition of the year. With no fewer than five medals, the Rebels once again ranked among the strongest clubs in the country: in the official medal table this meant 3rd place among all Viennese clubs and 9th in the nationwide club ranking – an impressive result for a still-young club. The medals at a glance:

  • πŸ₯‡ Daniel Carrillo-Angulo – Austrian Champion, Kumite +35
  • πŸ₯ˆ Lorenz Hellmer – Vice-Champion, Kumite Seniors βˆ’75 kg
  • πŸ₯ˆ Rebels Karate Team – Vice-Champions, Kumite Team Seniors

Building on a Historic Success

The strong 2026 season follows seamlessly on the biggest international success in the club’s recent history: 5th place at the WSKA World Championship 2025 in CΓ‘diz, achieved by Edvin Kuric – Austria’s biggest success in the Kumite Seniors class in ESKA/WSKA history in over 15 years.

More Than Just Medals

Behind all these successes lies far more than talent: consistent training at the highest level, the dedicated work of our coaches and a team spirit that defines the club. It is exactly this mix that makes Rebels Karateclub what it is.
