Austrian Karate Championship 2026: Five Medals for Rebels Karateclub

At the Austrian Karate Championship on 4 June 2026, Rebels Karateclub from Vienna delivered an outstanding team performance, claiming five podium finishes in kumite: one Austrian national title, two vice-champion titles and two third places. Once again, the Rebels rank among the strongest karate clubs in the country - 3rd in Vienna and 9th in the nationwide club ranking.

The national championship is the most important domestic karate competition of the year. Against this backdrop, the strong result underlines the training dedication, discipline and team spirit of our athletes.

Daniel Carrillo-Angulo Wins the Austrian National Title

The biggest success of the day: Daniel Carrillo-Angulo became Austrian Champion in the Kumite Individual male +35 category. Daniel dominated his bouts from the start and won every match by a clear margin - 6:0, 9:0 and 9:1. An impressive demonstration of technique, fighting spirit and mental strength.

And there was more: in the highly competitive Kumite Individual male Seniors -84 kg class, Daniel additionally secured 3rd place and thus another medal for the Rebels.

Lorenz Hellmer Fights His Way to Silver

Lorenz Hellmer also impressed with a very strong performance. In the Kumite Individual male Seniors -75 kg category he reached 2nd place. On his way to the final, Lorenz defeated national team athlete Pascal Platisa 4:2 - a real statement. In the final he narrowly lost to Mykyta from LZ Upper Austria, deservedly earning the title of vice-champion.

Bronze for Edvin Kuric

In the Kumite Individual male Seniors +84 kg weight class, Edvin Kuric delivered the next podium finish: he secured 3rd place and another bronze medal for Rebels Karateclub.

Team Event: Silver Against the Top Favourites

The team of Edvin Kuric, Lorenz Hellmer and Daniel Carrillo-Angulo proved the club’s team spirit in the Kumite Team male Seniors: with 2nd place, the Rebels also took a medal in the team event. Particularly remarkable was the win against LZ Upper Austria, who fielded the most successful individual fighter of the tournament. With tactical strength and a closed team performance, the Rebels team prevailed and confirmed its quality in team kumite as well.

With one Austrian national title, two vice-champion titles and two third places, the Rebels once again proved to be a high-performing club at national level:
