Grand Prix Pilsen 2025 – International Karate at the Highest Level

From September 27 to 29, 2025, one of the most significant international karate tournaments in Central Europe took place in the West Bohemian metropolis of Pilsen: the Grand Prix Pilsen 2025. Athletes from numerous nations met in the Czech sports arena to compete in the disciplines of Kata and Kumite. The tournament, which has been a fixture of the European competition calendar for years, regularly attracts top-level fighters from Eastern and Western Europe and is considered an important gauge of international competitive form.

What a finale at the WSKA World Championship 2025 in Cadiz! After the arrival in Cadiz and the intense preparation and preliminary rounds, the decisive day had arrived – and the Rebels Karateclub made history.

5th Place in the World: Edvin Kuric Writes Austrian Karate History

Edvin Kuric did it. With uncompromising fighting mentality, technical brilliance and the indomitable will of a true Rebel, he fought his way to 5th place in the world at the WSKA World Championship 2025 in Cadiz. With 83 participants in the Kumite Individual Men Seniors class (Open) – one of the most heavily contested categories of the tournament, open to all weight classes – this is an achievement that cannot be rated highly enough.

WSKA World Championship 2025 – Preparation and Preliminary Rounds

After the emotional arrival in Cadiz and the impressive opening ceremony, the second day of the WSKA WC 2025 brought what everyone had been waiting for: the kumite preliminary rounds. For the Rebels Karateclub, this day would become a milestone – as Edvin Kuric fought his way through one of the toughest classes of the entire tournament as pool winner.

84 Entries – The Scale of the Kumite Seniors Open Class

The Kumite Seniors Open category at the Karate World Championship in Cadiz was, with 84 entries, one of the most heavily contested classes of the entire tournament. Athletes from over 40 nations competed against each other – experienced competitors from Japan, Brazil, Germany, Turkey and many other karate powerhouses. In such a class, merely surviving the preliminary rounds requires the utmost concentration, tactical discipline and the ability to deliver under enormous pressure.

In mid-September 2025, Rebels Karateclub travelled to Italy to compete at the Turin Open 2025. The international karate tournament in Turin is one of the long-established events on the Italian karate calendar and brings together athletes from across Europe in Kata and Kumite.

On August 18, 2025, a special kumite training session took place at Rebels Karateclub: together with guests from the Viennese karate scene, an intense and varied training evening was completed. What started as an invitation between friendly clubs turned into an afternoon full of energy, learning and genuine solidarity.

On 14 July 2025, the summer belt examination took place at Rebels Karateclub. For weeks our candidates had been working towards this day – with additional karate training, targeted preparation in Kihon, Kata and Kumite and the necessary mental focus. At the end of the evening, many walked away with a new belt – a visible sign of their personal development in Shotokan Karate.

What a weekend. Three athletes enter, three athletes return with medals. At the Sport Austria Finals 2025 in Innsbruck, the Rebels Karateclub once again proved that it is one of the rising forces in Austrian karate. In the kumite events of the Austrian National Championship, Lorenz Hellmer, Edvin Kuric and Daniel Carrillo Angulo together claimed three medals – a result that fills the young club with tremendous pride.
