Rebels Karate Successful Again – Grand Prix Pilsen 2025

Grand Prix Pilsen 2025 – International Karate at the Highest Level

From September 27 to 29, 2025, one of the most significant international karate tournaments in Central Europe took place in the West Bohemian metropolis of Pilsen: the Grand Prix Pilsen 2025. Athletes from numerous nations met in the Czech sports arena to compete in the disciplines of Kata and Kumite. The tournament, which has been a fixture of the European competition calendar for years, regularly attracts top-level fighters from Eastern and Western Europe and is considered an important gauge of international competitive form.

In this high-caliber environment, the Rebels Karateclub Wien once again made a clear sporting statement – and with multiple medals at that.

Bronze Medal in Kumite Heavyweight for Edvin Kuric

The centerpiece of the tournament weekend was the performance of Edvin Kuric in the Kumite +84 kg category. The heavyweight class in kumite is one of the most demanding divisions in competitive karate. Here, it’s not just speed and technique that decide, but above all presence, body control and the ability to make the decisive move at the right moment. The opponents are physically strong, experienced and internationally seasoned – every single fight demands maximum concentration.

The Road to the Bronze Medal

Edvin started the competition focused and showed from the outset that he came to Pilsen not just to participate, but to fight for medals. On the tatami, he demonstrated tactical maturity and a cool head in decisive moments. Especially in the heavyweight division, individual scores can tip an entire fight – which makes it all the more important to consistently execute your own strategy while being prepared for your opponent’s actions.

With a convincing performance, Edvin worked his way through the field and ultimately secured an excellent third place and the bronze medal. A result that underscores the continuous upward trend of his competitive career and impressively confirms the quality of training at the Rebels Karateclub.

And Even More Medals for Us

But Edvin was far from the only bright spot that weekend. The Rebels team traveled to Pilsen with several athletes and brought home additional medals to Vienna. The team photos after the competition speak for themselves: beaming faces, proud Rebels in red and black – and several medals that reflect the success of the entire club.

Collaboration with Shiaikarate Do Wien

Particularly noteworthy is the close collaboration with the friendly club Shiaikarate Do Wien, which was also represented with fighters at the Grand Prix Pilsen. This cross-club cooperation strengthens the Viennese karate scene as a whole and shows that joint training and mutual exchange bear fruit on the international stage. When Viennese clubs work together, everyone benefits – from beginners in the dojo to competitors on the big stage.

Czech Republic as a Karate Stronghold

The Czech Republic has established itself as a strong karate nation in recent years. Tournaments like the Grand Prix Pilsen offer not only local athletes a platform but attract participants from all over Europe. The organizational level is high, the referees internationally certified and the competition atmosphere electrifying. For Austrian karateka, participation in such tournaments is a valuable opportunity to prove themselves outside their domestic leagues and gain international experience.

Results like these don’t happen by chance. They are the product of hard work in training, strategic competition preparation by our experienced coaching team and the unwavering will to improve at every level.
