Tournament Debut with a Bang: Team Gold at the Vienna Regional Championship 2025
On April 26, 2025, the Rebels Karateclub wrote a chapter of club history. At the Vienna Regional Championship 2025 – the very first tournament in the club’s young history – our athletes claimed three medals with three starters. A result that exceeded even the boldest expectations and shows the potential within this team.
For a club that was founded not long ago, participating in an official karate tournament in Vienna is already a big step. But the Rebels wanted more than just to be there. They wanted to make a statement – and that’s exactly what they did.
Team Gold in Kumite: Rebels Beat Nippon in the Final
The absolute highlight of the day was the Men’s Kumite Team competition. Our team competed against established clubs that have been on the Vienna tournament scene for years. In the final, they faced Team Nippon – one of the best-known karate clubs in the city – an opponent you’re not supposed to beat at your first tournament.
But the Rebels didn’t play by the usual rules. With an impressive combination of technical precision, tactical cunning and indomitable fighting spirit, our team won convincingly 2:0 and secured Team Gold at the Vienna Regional Championship 2025. A clear result that left no doubt about the dominance in this final.
What makes this victory particularly special: it was not just a sporting success but a statement. The Rebels proved that passion, hard training and genuine team cohesion can prevail even against years of tournament experience. Our coaches prepared the team optimally – both mentally and technically.
Individual Kumite: Dominance in the Heavyweight Class
Beyond the team success, our fighters also shone in individual kumite. Edvin Kuric showed from the very first second that he had come to win. He dominated his first round with a commanding 5:0 – a demonstration that turned heads in the venue.
1st and 2nd Place in the +84 kg Category
What’s special about the over-84-kg weight class: the final was an all-club duel. Edvin Kuric and his teammate Semso Kuric fought each other for gold and silver. Both Rebels athletes had worked their way through the preliminary rounds convincingly, leaving all the competition behind. In the end, they held 1st and 2nd place – the complete top of the +84 kg category belonged to the Rebels.
Silver in the -75 kg Category
In the up-to-75-kg weight class as well, the Rebels were right at the front. With a strong performance and high-level fights, our starter secured 2nd place and another medal for the Rebels tally. Three starters, three medals – a flawless record.
What This Success Means for the Rebels Karateclub
Coming home with gold from your very first tournament is extraordinary. But for the Rebels, it’s more than a medal collection. It’s the confirmation of a philosophy: quality over quantity, heart over routine. Every training session, every sparring match, every tactical discussion paid off on this day.
The Vienna Regional Championship 2025 was the starting signal – not the destination. Our athletes have shown that the Rebels Karateclub has arrived in the Viennese karate scene. The upcoming tournaments will prove that this debut was no fluke.
